Born April 9th of 1920 to Thompson and Avia Wilford, Jackson had a rather quiet childhood. An ace student graduating top of his class in high school he lived rather modestly until 1940 when he joined the U.S Army.

After completing training for the 101st Airborne Division, 431st Troop Carrier Regiment, he was promoted to Private First Class. From 1940 - 1944 he trained nonstop with the 431st. By the time Operation Overlord had started, he was a Staff Sergeant, ground crew deck officer.

A short while after D-Day the 431st Troop Carrier Regiment was formed into the Army Air Corps formally known as the 9th Army Air Force. He took this change in service to train to be a fighter pilot to help protect transport planes. After Flight School, he was a Commissioned Warrant Officer. Throughout the rest of the year, he did around 25 flight missions and was promoted to Squadron Executive Officer of 94th Fighter Squadron, 19th Attack Group. In 1945 he was mostly leading the squadron into battle whilst helping his Commanding Officer with recruitment.

At the end of 1945, he was promoted to Squadron Commanding Officer and sent to Officer Candidate School. After some tough training phases in OCS, he graduated with a 75.1/100%, with only 0.1% to pass. He returned as a Second Lieutenant on probation until he could be promoted to Captain. Around this time the war was over in Europe so he was sent to fight in Asia. He completed many missions as the commander of 94th, henceforth his meritorious promotion to 19th Attack Group Commanding Officer. After a few months of fighting and getting ranks and ballots settled, he was finally a Colonel. After serving for so long, he finally retired.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
